I can’t quite pinpoint exactly when or why my passion for chicken wings began. I know that generally I was in my early 30’s, the late 1990’s.
I recall, when I was stationed in Japan during the big Y2K farce (US Air Force, 1983-2010), I threw a Hot Wings party at work, through the time when all computers were supposed to crash while ticking over from 11:59pm, 1999 to 12:00am, 2000. I ran the campus computer network with my little rag-tag crew of Air Force network engineers on Yokota Air Base, just outside of Tokyo. Being close to the International Dateline, we got several calls from “yesterday.” What better way to have the world end than with a Hot Wings party?
As the years went on, I dreamed of creating the perfect Hot Wing recipe, starting my own restaurant and making millions shucking Hot Wings…not so much now.
But I still adore the lowly chicken wing in its many forms. My favorite is still breaded flats, with the traditional medium hot sauce with a bit of melted butter thrown in. I am willing to explore all flavors though! I’m not crazy about the high heat challenges. I don’t care if you can eat the hottest Guinness World Book rated peppers on the Scoville scale. I like flavor over heat.
So yeah. I’m an older guy. I’m an artist. I’m a photographer. I’m a foodie. I’m a wino. I’m a geek. I love technology. I love to travel the world. I can rub shoulders with high society and just as easily eat a bunch of wings with a bucket-full of Corona. I enjoy life. Its too short to hate anything.
C’mon along while I explore what the area has to offer. Do you have your own favorites? Contact me! I’d be happy to share my opinion over a few with you!
See you out there!
